I have read lots of other pump fault threads on here, and they all seem to be fixed with either a firmware upgrade or replacing an old, potentially faulty pump. I moved into a brand new house with a brand new irrigation system, including a Hunter pump. It had the Rain Bird ESP-TM2 controller on it, and I tried the wifi plug in module on it and their app and was disappointed with it compared to the Orbit B-Hyve controller and app that I had at my last house, so I replaced the Rain Bird with the B-Hyve (WT25G2-0001). I get random pump fault messages when a program tries to run. The app still looks like the program is running, but nothing actually happens outside. Sometimes I can stop it and manually kick off the program and it will run right away, but sometimes it will give me another pump fault, sometimes 4-5 times in a row before it finally kicks on the pump and starts irrigation. I emailed customer support. They replied saying they upgraded my firmware from v39 to v45 (I have tried to upgrade the firmware myself in the app but it always tells me “Update Failed: The update version specified was invalid”) and asked me to try it again. The next time it had a scheduled run, it worked without a pump fault error, but since then, it sometimes gives the error and sometimes runs as expected. I emailed them back asking about it, but haven’t gotten a response in over a week.
Any ideas on how to fix this? The pump worked fine every time a program ran on the Rain Bird controller. I really do not want to have to get rid of my B-Hyve, but if I have to manually check/start it every morning it is supposed to run because of the pump fault, it is not working like it should.

Just in case anyone looks at this and has the same issues, I replaced the Hunter relay with the Orbit relay (less than $40 at Lowe’s), and so far, I have not had any pump faults in the couple days since I swapped them out.

I have the Hunter PSR-22 pump relay and I have been getting more and more pump failure notices since I installed this B-hive in the spring. The controller/pump worked pretty flawlessly until about a month ago. My old Hunter controller never had a problem but was not wifi accessible. I first noticed the fump failures when testing zones using the remote control function from my iPhone. Now I’m waking up to pump failure notices stating it failed during my first of three cycles at 4am. I’m willing to try a new firmware if that fixes it. I wonder if the low voltage side of the Hunter relay sucks too much current and throws a fault in the B-hive? I upgraded to the 4 program Orbit B-Hyve from the 3 program Orbit B-Hyve. Reason I upgraded was that the older 3 program B-Hyve had major issues with wi-fi connectivity. No matter what firmware upgrades were done the wi-fi was an issue. But I liked what the B-Hyve could do. So I upgraded…the wi-fi issues with the 4 program B-Hyve are resolved BUT now I’m having a fault warning to do with the pump start. It’s an intermittent fault warning. If I try turning on the unit again it will start watering. It’s annoying that if in auto mode with an early morning start time I don’t see the fault warning until later.
After reading several threads on the pump fault warning it seems that the current draw could be the issue. But this fault never appeared on my previous old 3 program controller.
I can’t believe that Orbit cannot design and manufacture a product that actually works.
