This is my second year using the app and trying to get smart watering to run how you’d think it should. One of my biggest complaints is the “suggested start time” under Smart Watering.
With smart watering the user (myself) has no control over what zones are watered, how many times they are watered, and for what duration. I’m fine with that as long as it takes in to consideration other smart watering settings within the app or provides options to accommodate some guidelines. What’s frustrating in practicality is the “suggested start time”. I would rather have an option set a “suggested end time”. Let me explain.
For my climate and weather it’s typically better to water in early mornings before the sun is out and also so the lawn doesn’t sit all night damp which introduces mushroom growth more easily. My preference is for any and all watering tasks to be finished by about 7:00 am each morning regardless of how long the water was. It could have been 15 minutes which means it should have started at 6:45 am. If the total smart watering time was 6 hours it should have started at 1:00 am to be finished by 7:00 am. So because of the dynamic nature of smart watering there’s no way for me to accomplish this using a suggested start time. It would require me to monitor the smart watering durations and adjust the start time for every single watering day. Which pretty much defeats the purpose of having an automated timer if I have to manually adjust a parameter every time.
If you’re thinking go ahead and set the watering time restrictions that doesn’t work. All it will do is not allow a job to be scheduled within the restriction time. If I set the restriction from 7:00 am to 3:00 am the following day and my suggested start time is set to 3:15 am and it’s a 2 hour watering duration it will still end at 5:15 am not at 7:00 am which would be preferrable. I think the two options should be able to work better together and it could be accomplished if the app would look at the current smart watering schedule, calculate the duration which is already available, and auto select the appropriate start time given the known duration.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE look into this option. Thanks.

hello PlethoraGreen, Seeing as you have many requirements preferences for your watering I would suggest just creating a custom watering program. You can still leave smart watering enabled for your device to keep receiving automatic rain/freeze delays. They type of watering you wish to receive is not achievable under smart watering. You will need to create your own custom program.Spread the love!May 17, 2018 at 8:42 pm #1907PlethoraGreenParticipant
Ryan, thanks for the response.
I realize it’s not achievable “currently,” I’m suggesting an enhancement that I think would be very beneficial to the app for your user base.
I don’t have many requirements I just have one. Smarter watering to always be finished at X time. All the data points are already there I don’t think it would be strikingly difficult for the app devs to add a toggle for start time/stop time and let the user decide which they want to use.

I also would like this feature. I can not use smart watering for my zones as the time for my yards 12 fairly large zones takes me from 2am to 10 am. Then the next day no watering. Wish I could tell smart watering to stop by a certain time so that the zones get staggered over the week rather than all run consecutively.Spread the love!
